Terry de Havilland for Amy Winehouse
The Zap Pow
The MIAMI Shoe Museum is honored to feature this priceless masterpiece from Terry de Havilland as part of Luis Valenzuela's renowned collection. Pop Art, which rose to prominence in the 1950s, often embraced bold, contrasting primary color combinations to create visually striking works. This aesthetic perfectly aligns with Terry de Havilland's standout designs and inspired the creation of the iconic Zap Pow Mule.
The Zap Pow is a towering stiletto crafted from vibrant yellow leather, adorned with hand-painted Pop Art and cartoon-inspired details. Its bold styling pays homage to the works of Roy Lichtenstein, reflecting the high-contrast and daring color combinations that challenged traditional norms in art and fashion.
This limited-edition piece is a rarity, with only a handful ever produced. Notably, this pair was custom-made for Amy Winehouse's 2007 international tour, where she famously wore them during her performance at the iconic Coachella festival. Another pair was showcased at the Icons of British Fashion exhibition at Blenheim Palace in March 2024, further cementing its status as a timeless icon of design and creativity.

With her soulful voice, raw emotional expression, and rebellious spirit, Winehouse captivated audiences worldwide, becoming a cultural icon during her tragically brief career. Terry de Havilland’s designs, known for their rock 'n' roll glamour and vintage flair, perfectly reflected the individuality and defiance that defined Winehouse’s persona.
Though Winehouse’s untimely passing in 2011 marked the end of an era, her enduring impact on fashion and music remains profound. In 2024, her remarkable life and talent will be celebrated in Back to Black a 2024 biographical drama film starring Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, promising to introduce her legacy to a new generation.
