History

Founded by visionary collector Luis Valenzuela, the MIAMI Shoe Museum celebrates footwear's artistry, craftsmanship, and historical significance. Valenzuela’s passion for shoes began in 2010, culminating in a private collection of nearly 800 pairs of shoes from designers around the globe. This collection, named “Memories,” serves as the museum's foundation and reflects Valenzuela’s dedication to preserving and showcasing the rich history of footwear.

In 2022, Valenzuela realized his dream of creating a virtual resource with the launch of the MIAMI Shoe Museum online. This digital platform allowed enthusiasts and scholars worldwide to explore the collection and engage with the museum’s educational content. In June 2024, the museum expanded its mission by opening the MSM Research Center and THE SHOE VAULT exhibition space, dedicated to supporting the preservation, research, and education of footwear’s cultural heritage.

Mission
The MIAMI Shoe Museum is committed to preserving and showcasing footwear's rich history, artistry, and craftsmanship. We study shoes' cultural significance through exhibitions, research, and educational initiatives, emphasizing their evolution and impact on fashion, society, and innovation.

Vision
To be a global leader in celebrating the history of footwear, shaping its future, and inspiring creativity through art, innovation, and sustainability while fostering education and a deeper appreciation for the stories that shoes convey across generations.
